Abak Mental Arithmetic Academy

Abak Mental Arithmetic Academy is a private education center in Yerevan that teaches mental arithmetic, a calculation method built on the abacus (bead counting frame). It was founded in 2016 by Narine Balayan and Diana Hovhannisyan, who introduced the method to Armenia and opened its first location on Demirchyan street. Since then it has grown into a network of branches operating under the name "Abak Kids."

The academy runs an annual olympiad for its students. The 2026 edition took place on May 17, with the awards ceremony held at Yerevan Park and competition rounds at the Tigran Mets hall of the Marriott hotel. It drew 425 participants from across Armenia, plus competitors from Georgia and Cyprus, with additional entrants competing online from the United States, France, Germany, Spain and Latvia. Students competed by age group and by level of difficulty in the method, and top scorers in the hardest categories received cash prizes from the academy.

The academy is located in Yerevan itself, about 1 km north-northwest of the city center by straight-line distance.
