Aghjka Berd Fortress

Крепость Ахчкаберд · Աղջիկա Բերդ

Aghjka Berd Fortress is a ruined medieval stronghold set on the top of a forested mountain in Tavush region, about 16 km southwest of Ijevan. Natural cliffs enclose the site on every side, and the builders added an artificial wall punctuated by tower shapes for extra defense. Just inside the entrance stood a small guardhouse, the only interior structure noted at the site today.

What survives is essentially the outline of a defended hilltop: walls, towers, and the guardhouse footprint, rather than an intact building.

The fortress sits in Tavush region, roughly 16 km southwest of Ijevan, on a forested mountain reached by climbing above the surrounding terrain. From Yerevan it lies about 85 km north-northeast, straight-line.
