Fortress Joj Kogh
крепость «Джодж кох» · Ամրոց «Ջոջ կող»
Fortress Joj Kogh sits on the southeast slope of the height bearing its name, in Gegharkunik region near Martuni. Its southeastern wall was once shared with a border fortification, and its position let it command the land around it. The whole site covers about two hectares, with a citadel taking up roughly a quarter hectare of that, built using the same technique seen at the Dashtadzor fortress.
The layout traces an elongated horseshoe. Its highest section, semicircular in shape, holds the citadel. Five stone pyramid-towers of varying size line the eastern wall, spaced almost evenly apart, and one more tower rises from the outer wall. The main entrance stood at the northeast corner; the citadel had its own entrance to the south. Remains of dwellings cover the fortress, the citadel, and the ground around them.
The fortress lies in Gegharkunik region, near the town of Martuni, about 67 km east of Yerevan in a straight line.
