Aregun Mountains

Арегуни · Արեգունի լեռներ

The Aregun Mountains are a ridge of the Lesser Caucasus that runs along the northeastern shore of Lake Sevan, stretching from the Sevan mountain pass to Kashatagh peak. They form the watershed between the Sevan lake basin and the valley of the Getik river.

The range splits into two parallel chains, separated by the valleys of the Drakhtik and Bareber rivers. Its highest point is Karktasar. The ridge is asymmetric: the southern slopes are steeper and more cut through by valleys than the gentler northern slopes.

The range sits in Gegharkunik region, near the town of Sevan, roughly 70 km northeast of Yerevan in a straight line, tracing the northeastern edge of Lake Sevan.
