Azhdahak

Аждаак · Աժդահակ

Azhdahak is the highest peak in the Gegham mountains, an extinct volcano rising to 3,597 m on the border between Gegharkunik and Kotayk provinces. It forms part of the Gegham Ridge volcanic field, whose last known eruption is dated to around 1900 BC, give or take a thousand years — long enough that nothing here counts as active anymore.

Beyond its elevation and its place in that volcanic field, little else about the peak is documented. Anyone planning to climb it should check trail conditions and access locally before setting out.

Azhdahak sits in Gegharkunik region, on the ridge bordering Kotayk, roughly 39 km east of Yerevan as the crow flies. No specific trailhead or nearest village is on record, so route and access are best confirmed locally.

At an elevation above 3,500 m, snow can linger well into early summer, so it's worth checking conditions before attempting the climb outside the warmer months.
