Church of Saint John

Церковь святого Оганеса · Եկեղեցի Սբ. Հովհաննես

Church of Saint John stands on the northeastern side of Yerevan's Avan district, built in the 5th century. A cross is carved into the lintel above the entrance, and the walls still hold numerous carved ornamental crosses from that period.

Around the church, stelae, khachkars (carved cross-stones) and a medieval cemetery have survived. On the left side of the churchyard stands an inscribed khachkar set into a wall.

The church sits in Yerevan's Avan district, in Yerevan region, about 7 km northeast of the city center (straight-line).
