Erebuni Reserve

Эребуни (заповедник) · Էրեբունի արգելոց

Erebuni Reserve protects a stretch of semi-desert mountain-steppe on red clay deposits more than ten million years old, home to plant species endemic both to Armenia and to the reserve itself. Established in 1981 on 89 hectares, the terrain sits between 1,300 and 1,450 meters above sea level.

The vegetation grows in dense, low clusters roughly 70–75 cm tall that from a distance resemble a wheatfield. In 2015 the protected area expanded from 89 to 120 hectares, with 31 hectares added in Voghjaberd.

The reserve lies in Ararat marz, ~15 km southwest of Yerevan in a straight line.
