Gandzasar

Gandzasar Stadium is Kapan's football ground, home to FC Gandzasar and FC Syunik, with seating for 3,000 — some counts list 3,500. It sits on the left bank of the Voghji River in the middle of town, with Kapan's town hall right at its eastern edge.

It wasn't always called Gandzasar. The ground was once known as Lernagorts (miner), before being renamed for the club that plays there now.

A 2008 renovation swapped in new turf and rebuilt the grandstand. The pitch is the good part. Armenian-language records call it one of the best playing surfaces in the country. Average attendance runs closer to 1,500 — well short of a sellout.

Kapan is the regional center of Syunik Province, in Armenia's south, roughly 195 km southeast of Yerevan as the crow flies. The stadium sits centrally within the town; the actual road route and travel time are best checked locally.
