Gegham mountains
Гегамский хребет · Գեղամա լեռներ
The Gegham mountains are a volcanic range in Armenia, sitting on the divide between the Sevan basin to the east and the Araks, Hrazdan, Azat, Vedi and Arpachai river systems to the north, west and south. The range runs 70 km long and 48 km wide.
The terrain was built by a volcanic field of lava domes and cinder cones dating from the Pleistocene to the Holocene. Average elevation across the range sits near 2,500m, with the highland rising from 1,800–2,000m up to 3,000m along the dividing ridge. The high point is Azhdahak, an extinct volcano reaching 3,597m.
The Gegham mountains lie in Gegharkunik region, roughly 42 km east-northeast of Yerevan as the crow flies.
