Geology museum
Музей геологии · Երկրաբանության թանգարան
The Geology museum in Yerevan shows around 2,700 of its roughly 11,000 mineral, fossil and rock samples, split into six sections: paleontology, volcanology, mineralogy, mineral resources, petrology and mineral waters.
It opened in 1937, built around the personal collection of the geologist Karapetyan, who ran it until his death in 1943. It was renamed for him the following year, and its holdings later grew mainly through donations from Armenian geologists.
A separate hall opened in 2012 for minerals given by the collector Dildilyan, an Armenian based in the United States. It shows 750 of the 1,400 specimens he donated from deposits in several countries, displayed next to further pieces given by Armenian geologists.
The museum is in Yerevan, in Yerevan region — about 0 km east-northeast of the city center in straight-line terms, effectively within the city itself.
