RAA Foundation for the Study of Armenian Architecture
Фонд изучения армянской архитектуры RAA Foundation · Հայկական ճարտարապետությունն ուսումնասիրող հիմնադրամ RAA Foundation
The RAA Foundation for the Study of Armenian Architecture is a research organization based in Yerevan, founded in 1998 and chaired by Emma Abrahamyan. Its stated aim is to send expeditions across the historical territory of Armenia, and secondarily into diaspora settlement areas, to locate, document and study surviving monuments of Armenian material culture.
Samvel Karapetyan, quoted on the foundation's site, describes the office in blunt terms: the cannons belong to the state, he says, but they cannot fire without shells — and the shells of this particular war, fought on propaganda and diplomatic fronts, are kept in the foundation's offices.
According to its own site, the foundation has produced 220 publications, digitized around 638,000 archival items, received 30 awards, and completed 24 three-dimensional reconstructions of monuments. It publishes research on subjects including the Khojivank cemetery, the Javakhk region, and the birthplaces of genocide survivors as recorded in Lebanese gravestone inscriptions.
The office keeps weekday hours, Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 18:00, and can be reached by phone, email or through its website.
The foundation is located in Yerevan, ~3 km northwest of Yerevan (straight-line).
