Javakheti Range
Джавахетский хребет · Ջավախքի լեռներ
The Javakheti Range is a volcanic ridge running north to south for about 50 km, stretching from the Trialeti range down to the Bazum Range. It sits along the border of Georgia and Armenia, touching Armenia's Lori and Shirak marzes, and runs parallel to the neighboring Samsari Range.
The range formed from a chain of volcanoes active during the Quaternary period. Its highest summit is Mount Achkasar.
The range lies on the Lori-Shirak border in northern Armenia, about 127 km north-northwest of Yerevan (straight-line).
As a high volcanic range, conditions turn colder and less accessible in winter, with better conditions for hiking in the warmer months.
