Kapuyt Lake

Капуйт · Կապույտ լիճ

Kapuyt Lake sits at 823 m near Hovtashen village in the Ararat region. It formed by erosion rather than any river or glacier, and measures just 500 m long by 100 m wide, covering 0.05 km².

The lake is shallow — 3 m at its deepest — holding about 55,000 m³ of water. Groundwater feeds it, and the water runs turbid rather than clear. Villagers use it to irrigate Hovtashen's farmland.

Kapuyt Lake lies in the Ararat region, near Hovtashen village, about 20 km south-southwest of Yerevan in a straight line.
