Kari
Кари · Քարի լիճ
Kari (Քարի լիճ, "stone lake") sits on the slopes of Mount Aragats in Aragatsotn region, at an elevation of 3,188 meters. It fills a U-shaped valley closed off by moraines — ridges of glacial debris left behind by ice — which makes it a glacial lake by origin.
The shoreline runs 1,150 meters around, the water reaches 8 meters at its deepest, and the lake holds about 375,000 cubic meters across a surface of 0.12 square kilometers. It's fed mainly by precipitation, and the water stays clear and cold through the part of the year it isn't frozen.
A meteorological station stands on the eastern shore, and the surrounding area is set up as a recreation spot.
Kari lies in Aragatsotn region, on the slopes of Mount Aragats, roughly 43 km northwest of Yerevan in a straight line, near the town of Byurakan.
The lake stays frozen for 8 to 9 months of the year, so open water is really only a summer feature.
