Kobayr is a 12th-century Armenian monastery in the village of Kobayr, built directly across the road from Tumanyan. It ranked among northern Armenia's centers of religious and cultural life in the medieval period, and served also as a place for manuscript copying.

The monastery sits on terraced ground on the slope of the Debed river gorge, west of the Kober railway station. Its elevated, difficult-to-reach position set it apart from the valley floor below.

Kobayr sits in Lori marz (administrative region), opposite the town of Tumanyan; straight-line distance from Yerevan is about 93 km to the north.
