Lake Lessing, Aragatsotn, Armenia

Lake Lessing

Лесинг · Լեսինգ

Lake Lessing counts among the small number of natural lakes found anywhere in Armenia — most bodies of water in the country are reservoirs. It sits on the eastern slope of Mount Aragats, with sources giving its elevation as either roughly 3,200 or 3,300 meters.

At that height, the ground cover around the lake is alpine vegetation: low plants suited to thin air and short growing seasons rather than trees or scrub.

The lake is in Aragatsotn region, on the eastern flank of Aragats above the town of Aparan, about 45 km north-northwest of Yerevan in a straight line.
