Lori fortress
Крепость Лори · Լոռի Բերդ
Lori fortress is an 11th-century Armenian stronghold, raised in 1065 by David Anhoghin — David the Landless — to serve as capital of the newly founded Kingdom of Tashir-Dzoraget. It held that role until 1113.
The fortress sits on a ridge where the Dzoraget and Urut gorges meet, near a village called Lori Berd, berd being the Armenian word for fortress. The site is included in the local list of immovable monuments of history and culture of Lori Berd.
What's standing today isn't well recorded — check locally before you go for the current state of the walls and access.
Lori fortress sits in Lori province, about 4 km east of Stepanavan, near the village of Lori Berd. In straight-line terms it's roughly 90 km north of Yerevan.
