Meghru Mountains

Мегринский хребет · Մեղրու լեռներ

The Meghru Mountains form a ridge in southern Syunik, a spur of the larger Zangezur mountain system. Part of the range extends into Zangelan district of Azerbaijan. It runs from the Dabaklu pass — which links it to the Zangezur range — and the upper course of the Vokhchi river, southeast to the Aras river.

Russian-language sources call it the Meghri-Gyuney range; Armenian sources also list it as the Arevik, Kapan, or Chavndur mountains.

Baghatsar is generally named as the high point. Under the range's Arevik name, Khustup also turns up among its listed summits. The northern slopes fall within the Shikahogh nature reserve.

Most of the ridge is forested, and it carries deposits of nonferrous metals.

The Meghru Mountains lie in Syunik region, southeastern Armenia, about 202 km southeast of Yerevan in a straight line.

Subtropical air holds through most of the year, but steady winds set in across the ridge every winter.
