Miapor Ridge, Tavush, Armenia

Miapor Ridge

Миапорский хребет · Միափորի լեռներ

Miapor Ridge, sometimes mapped as Murghuz Ridge, runs about 54 km through Tavush and Gegharkunik marzes (provinces), from the confluence of the Aghstev and Getik rivers in the northwest to Kashatagh peak in the southeast. Its highest point, Miapor, reaches 2,993 m.

The western and southern slopes drop steeply; the eastern side slopes more gently. Forest covers the ridge up to about 2,000 m, including stands of karmratsar (a local tree); above that line, subalpine and alpine meadows take over. Near the village of Haghartsin sit the rock formations known as Abeghakar and Sari Kar.

The ridge's southwestern edge falls within Dilijan National Park.

The ridge lies across Tavush and Gegharkunik marzes (provinces), near Haghartsin village, about 89 km northeast of Yerevan in a straight line.

The upper slopes sit above 2,000 m in alpine meadow, so snow cover shapes when the higher ground is walkable.
