Mtin rises to 3,039 meters on the boundary between the Lori and Shirak regions, part of the Javakhk mountain range. It sits 8.5 km northeast of the village of Hartashen.
The peak also appears on older maps under the names Kazankaya, Ghazankaya, and Ghazangaya.
Mtin sits on the Lori-Shirak border, about 109 km north-northwest of Yerevan as the crow flies.
