Noratus cemetery
Кладбище хачкаров в Норатусе · Նորատուսի գերեզմանատուն
Noratus cemetery, on the southeastern edge of Noratus village, holds the largest surviving collection of khachkars (carved cross-stones) in Armenia, a status it gained after Azerbaijani authorities destroyed the Julfa cemetery in Nakhichevan.
The stones span eight centuries, cut between the 10th and the 18th. No single era dominates. Rows of them cover the burial ground, each one carved individually rather than following one workshop or period style.
Noratus cemetery lies in Gegharkunik province, near the town of Gavar, roughly 61 km east-northeast of Yerevan as the crow flies.
