Odzun Church is an Armenian Apostolic basilica in the village of Odzun, in Lori marz (province), built around the 5th to 7th century. Its full dedication is Surb Astvatsatsin — Holy Mother of God. Armenian sources use that name; Russian ones call the site a monastery and date it to the 6th century. The looser 5th–7th century span in the English record is the honest version: the church is early, and the exact year is not settled.

Historically, the village sat in the gavar (district) of Tashir, in the eastern part of the old province of Gugark. That geography matters more than it might seem. Lori's church sites are scattered across village edges and plateau shoulders, and Odzun is one of the ones that stayed in use rather than becoming a ruin to visit.

It is a working church, not a museum, so plan around that. If a service is under way, keep to the back and let people be.

Go without a checklist. The interest here is the age of the thing and the fact that it is still standing in the middle of an inhabited village, rather than any single detail you can tick off in ten minutes.
