Saint Gregory the Illuminator Church, Yerevan

церковь Святого Григория Просветителя, Ереван · Սուրբ Գրիգոր Լուսավորիչ եկեղեցի, Երևան

Saint Gregory the Illuminator Church was built between 1869 and 1900 in what was then Yerevan's Nor Tagh quarter, on a street later known as Nazarovskaya. It served the Armenian Apostolic community of the growing city through the final decades of the Russian Empire and into the early Soviet period.

The church was destroyed in 1939. Nothing of the original structure remains, and the site is now occupied by the Yeghishe Charents School on Amiryan Street, in the heart of modern Yerevan.

The former church site lies in central Yerevan, on Amiryan Street, within easy walking distance of the city's main squares — though only the school building that replaced it stands there today.
