Sevaberdi Reservoir
Водохранилище Севаберд · Սևաբերդի ջրամբար
Sevaberdi Reservoir holds 6 million m³ of water for irrigation, feeding 1,200 hectares of farmland on the western slope of the Gegham mountain range in Kotayk region, near Abovyan. It sits at 2,000 m elevation, went into service in 1983, and covers 0.45 km² at a depth of 37 m.
An earthen dam with a sand-clay core holds it back — 297 m long, 40 m high. Water passes through a funnel-shaped deep intake and a metal pipeline into a reinforced-concrete chamber before reaching the irrigation system built on the right bank.
The discharge rate is 0.64 m³ per second.
Beyond its own irrigation area, the reservoir sends 1.5 million m³ a year to the Kotayk canal.
The reservoir lies in Kotayk region near the town of Abovyan, about 27 km east-northeast of Yerevan in a straight line.
The reservoir freezes over in winter; year-round, its water serves irrigation rather than any other use.
