Shirak Mountain Range, Shirak, Armenia

Shirak Mountain Range

Ширакский хребет · Շիրակի լեռնաշղթա

Shirak Mountain Range runs 37 km east to west across the Shirak region, built from a mix of igneous and sedimentary rock. It's also recorded under older names, including Yesaul Ridge.

No forest cover exists anywhere along the range, but the slopes grow thick grass in spring and summer. That growth has long made the ridge a working pasture rather than a scenic stop.

The range sits in Shirak region, roughly 94 km north-northwest of Yerevan as the crow flies.

Grass cover peaks in spring and summer, which is also when the slopes are used for grazing; the rest of the year the range is bare and exposed.
