Smoking Woman

Smoking Woman stands among the outdoor sculptures at the Cafesjian Center for the Arts, part of the Cascade complex in Yerevan. The piece itself dates to 1987. The copy on view here, though, is much younger — it went up in 2012, 25 years after the original was made.

That gap between creation and replication is really the only story the record tells. No sculptor, material, or dimensions are documented for this entry, so take the work on its own terms: a figure, a title, and two dates a quarter-century apart.
