Surb Hovhannnes Church Argavand

Surb Hovhannes (Saint John) Church, an Armenian Apostolic church in the village of Argavand, Armavir region, was built in the 1800s and later shut down and left in ruin during the Soviet campaign against religion, before a chapel went up on its site in 1960.

Argavand lies 13 km southeast of the Armavir marz center. What stands today is that 1960 chapel, raised over the ruins of the original 19th-century church rather than a restoration of it.

The church is in Argavand village, Armavir region, about 13 km southeast of the marz center. From Yerevan it sits roughly 38 km west-southwest in a straight line.
