Spartak

Spartak is the Soviet-era sports society that still runs from Agathangelos street in Kentron (Yerevan's central district), now under the name Armenia Sports Union. The Spartak name held on for decades. It was dropped only in 1999, when the organization took its current title.

Sources disagree on how old the club actually is. One account puts the founding in 1987, when four separate Soviet Armenian sports societies merged into a single union. Another traces the Spartak name back to 1935, more than half a century earlier. Both could be true at once. A club founded in 1935 may simply have been one of the four absorbed into the 1987 merger. The one date everyone agrees on is 1999, when the Spartak name was retired for good.

Beyond that, the record is thin. No sport list survives in the sources, no building description, nothing on athletes or matches. What's confirmed is the address on Agathangelos street and the present name — anything more specific is worth checking locally.
