St. Thaddeus Church

Церковь Святого Тадевоса · Սուրբ Թադևոս եկեղեցի (Դդմաշեն)

St. Thaddeus Church stands in the village of Ddmashen, Gegharkunik province, a 7th-century Armenian church named for the apostle Thaddeus. Some architectural historians count it as the fourth major example of its style, after the churches of Talin, Ptghavank, and Aruchavank.

An earthquake damaged the structure, and in 1907 its drum was replaced with a sixteen-sided one, built in a style different from the original. Apart from that change, the church has stayed structurally the same.

A cemetery lies south of the church, its grave stones mostly plain and unmarked.

The church stands in Ddmashen village, Gegharkunik province, near Hrazdan — roughly 51 km north-northeast of Yerevan as the crow flies.
