Surb Hovhannes Church of Byurakan

Церковь Святого Иоанна Крестителя · Սուրբ Հովհաննես եկեղեցի

Surb Hovhannes Church is a 10th-century basilica in the village of Byurakan, in Aragatsotn province. It's a working example of early medieval Armenian church building, still standing in the village it was raised in.

Not far from it, across a ravine, are the ruins of the Artavazik Church, dated to the 7th century, along with a khachkar (carved cross-stone) from the 13th century. The two sites sit close enough to visit together.

Byurakan is in Aragatsotn province, roughly 27 km northwest of Yerevan as the crow flies.
