Surb Sion church in Garni

Surb Sion is a round church uncovered by excavation within the grounds of Garni fortress, standing on the western side of the pagan temple there. Scholars disagree on when it was built, placing it in either the 7th or the 9th century.

Beyond its location and disputed dating, little else is documented about the structure.

The church sits inside Garni fortress in Kotayk region, in the town of Garni, about 20 km east-southeast of Yerevan in a straight line.
