Surb Stepanos

Сурб Степанос · Եկեղեցի Սբ. Ստեփանոս

Surb Stepanos is a 7th-century church built from dressed tufa (a volcanic building stone), quarried in yellowish-red and brown tones and set into the slope of a gorge northeast of Kosh village, in Aragatsotn region. The two-toned stone gives the church its most distinctive feature, and little more about its history has survived.

Byurakan is the nearest town; Surb Stepanos sits ~34 km west-northwest of Yerevan (straight-line).
