Tatev Guest House
гостевой дом Татев · Տաթև հյուրատուն
Tatev is the seat of its own municipality in Syunik Province, sitting on a plateau above the Vorotan River at an elevation of roughly 1,560–1,660 meters. Staying here puts you within walking distance of the 9th-century Tatev Monastery, one of the great medieval religious complexes of Armenia, and at the upper station of the Wings of Tatev — the world's longest non-stop double-track aerial tramway.
Because the village itself is small and built around the monastery's presence, a guesthouse stay here means quiet evenings after the day-trippers have left, with the monastery grounds and surrounding gorge views largely to yourself.
Tatev lies about 15 km southwest of Goris and roughly 50 km from the provincial center of Kapan, reached by road along the plateau above the Vorotan River gorge. Most visitors arrive via Goris, either by road or by taking the Wings of Tatev tramway from the Halidzor station across the gorge.
At over 1,500 meters elevation, Tatev has a noticeably cooler mountain climate than lowland Armenia — pack layers even in summer, and check tramway operations if visiting in winter weather.
