Teghenis
Тегенис · Թեղենիս
Teghenis is the highest point of the Tsaghkunyats mountain chain, sitting right on the line between Aragatsotn and Kotayk regions, close to Tsaghkadzor. Older sources also record it as Alibeg, Alibegdagh, or Alibek — same summit, different spellings.
The mountain is built in two layers. Underneath are old rocks from the lower Paleozoic, Cretaceous, and Paleogene periods; on top sits a cap of Miocene-Pliocene andesite and andesite-basalt, laid down by later volcanic activity. That harder volcanic cap is typically what keeps a summit like this as exposed rock rather than soil and grass, even where the older rock beneath has weathered down.
No trail markers, refuge huts, or summit facilities are documented here. This is a peak for people already comfortable finding their own line along a ridge.
Teghenis rises in Kotayk region, on the boundary with Aragatsotn, near the town of Tsaghkadzor — roughly 40 km north-northeast of Yerevan as the crow flies. No marked approach or trailhead is documented, so the actual route up is best confirmed locally before you set out.
As the highest point on the Tsaghkunyats ridge, it likely holds snow later into the season than the surrounding summits — summer is the safer bet unless you're equipped for snow travel.
