Vardavar lake, Yerevan, Armenia

Vardavar lake

Озеро Вардавар · Վարդավառի լիճ

Known under several names over the decades — Argishti sea, Tokhmakh gyol, and Komsomol lake among them — this reservoir is one of the older man-made bodies of water in Yerevan and, by size, the second largest of its kind in the capital.

The shifting names reflect the different eras the lake has passed through, from Soviet-era branding to the modern Vardavar label it carries today. Beyond its scale and age, detailed public information about the site is limited, but it remains a fixture on the map of Yerevan's urban waterways.

The lake sits within Yerevan itself, in the city's southern reaches, and is reachable using regular city transport or a short taxi ride from the centre.
