Vorotan Pass

Воротанский перевал · Որոտանի լեռնանցք

Vorotan Pass crosses the northern end of the Zangezur mountain range at 2,344 meters, close to the summit of Mount Amulsar. It's also known locally as Akunk Pass or Kyochbek Pass.

The pass carries the road connecting Yeghegnadzor and Sisian, and it marks the divide between the Arpa river basin and the Vorotan river basin. Strong winds are frequent here.

The pass lies in Vayots Dzor region, roughly 116 km east-southeast of Yerevan as the crow flies, on the high ground between the Arpa and Vorotan drainages.

At over 2,300 meters and prone to strong winds, conditions here can turn harsh with little warning — dress and drive accordingly.
