Yerakatar
Еракатар · Եռակատար
Yerakatar is a mountain peak in Armenia's Shirak region, rising 3,011 meters where the Yeghnakhagh (Eghnakhagh) range meets the borders of Georgia and Turkey. The peak is built of andesite-basalt rock formed in the Miocene-Pliocene period, and its slopes are steep rather than gradual.
Water defines the place as much as elevation does. The mountain is rich in cold springs, and its lower slopes carry thick pasture grass before giving way, higher up, to subalpine and alpine plant cover.
Yerakatar sits in the Shirak region, roughly 137 km northwest of Yerevan as the crow flies, near where Armenia's border meets Georgia and Turkey.
The alpine and subalpine slopes are grazing pasture in the warmer months; expect snow cover and harsher conditions at this elevation outside summer.
