Aghchka berd, Aragatsotn, Armenia

Aghchka berd

Ахчка Берд · Կոշի ամրոց

Aghchka berd ("berd" meaning fortress) is the ruin of a 13th-century stronghold set on a hilltop north of Kosh village. Its plan is rectangular with corner projections, laid out in large blocks of finely cut tufa in the upper courses and rougher-hewn basalt below.

Beyond the dating and construction, little else is recorded about the site — no chronicle of who held it or why it was abandoned survives in the available sources.

The fortress stands near Kosh village in the Aragatsotn region, close to Byurakan, roughly 26 km west-northwest of Yerevan as the crow flies.
