Ampur
Ампур · Ամպուր
Ampur is a mountain peak reaching 3,234 meters on the southeastern slope of Aragats, in Armenia's Aragatsotn region. It sits south of Kari Lake (stone lake), between the Amberd and Arqashen rivers, close to the town of Byurakan.
The peak is built from oligocene-miocene volcanic rock, and traces of glaciation from the middle Pleistocene period remain on its slopes. The landscape here is mountain-meadow. Ampur has gone by several other names over time, including Amberdasar, Amberd, Ampirt, Anberd, and Hamberd.
Ampur lies in Aragatsotn region near the town of Byurakan, on the southeastern slope of Aragats, roughly 42 km northwest of Yerevan in a straight line.
As a high mountain-meadow peak above 3,000 meters, conditions vary sharply by season — plan around weather at altitude rather than lowland forecasts.
