Amulsar
Амулсар · Ամուլսար
Amulsar reaches 2,988 m on the ridge where Syunik region meets Vayots Dzor, in the northern part of the Zangezur range. Older Armenian sources record the same peak under several variant names — among them Gsgrtagh and Ksrdagh — reflecting local pronunciation differences rather than separate landmarks.
The mountain is built from Oligocene-Miocene rock, and its slopes are prone to landslides. Vegetation shifts with height: mountain-steppe grass and scrub lower down, giving way to mountain-meadow near the top.
Amulsar rises in Syunik region near the town of Jermuk, about 5.5 km east of the village of Saravan. It sits roughly 114 km east-southeast of Yerevan in a straight line.
At nearly 3,000 m, the upper mountain-meadow slopes are realistically walkable only in summer and early autumn, once snow clears.
