Deghdznut Monastery
Монастырь Дехцут · Դեղձուտի վանք
Deghdznut Monastery is an Armenian Apostolic complex set inside forest on the Deghdznut hillside in Tavush, facing the former stronghold of the Makhkanaberd princes across a sheer cliff.
No founding record survives. The 13th-century date comes from the building's style and from donor inscriptions carved into the stone there.
Forested mountains open up in every direction from the site. Facing the monastery, historic Berdaqar rises on the crags of that cliff — once a fortress held by the princes of Makhkanaberd.
Deghdznut Monastery stands in Tavush region, in forest southwest of the village of Kiranc (also called Getashen) and about 9 km southwest of Acharkut. In a straight line it lies roughly 101 km north-northeast of Yerevan.
