Hinaldag

Большой Гиналдаг · Հինալ

Hinaldag is a mountain rising to roughly 3,370 meters at the point where the Sevan and Mrav ranges meet. Armenian sources call it the highest point of the Sevan range. Alpine and subalpine meadows cover its upper slopes, and it sits in the source area of the Levchay, Shamkir, and Ganja rivers.

For decades after the first Nagorno-Karabakh war, Hinaldag functioned as the de facto line of contact between Azerbaijani forces and the self-proclaimed Republic of Artsakh. That changed on November 25, 2021, when Azerbaijan took full control of the peak under the terms of the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh ceasefire agreement. It now lies within Azerbaijan's Dashkasan district.

The peak sits about 123 km east of Yerevan in a straight line, near the edge of Armenia's Gegharkunik marz, on ground now controlled by Azerbaijan's Dashkasan district.

Alpine and subalpine meadows make the upper slopes a warm-season landscape; snow and access conditions at this elevation are not documented here.
