Karktasar rises to 2,744 m in the Aregunyats mountain range, in Armenia's Gegharkunik region. It marks the highest point along the middle stretch of that range, standing 4 km north of the village of Draktik.
Two rivers trace their start to its slopes: the Artsataghbyurk river begins on the southeastern side, and the Yerkanadzor river rises on the southern side.
Karktasar sits in Gegharkunik region, about 78 km northeast of Yerevan in a straight line, 4 km north of the village of Draktik.
