Kasakh Waterfall
Касахский водопад · Քասախի ջրվեժ
Kasakh Waterfall is Armenia's tallest waterfall on paper — a 70-meter drop down the left slope of the Kasakh river gorge, near the village of Oganavan in Aragatsotn region, facing Karbi village and Hovhanavank monastery. The water was never natural here. It was diverted from the Arzni-Shamiram canal and sent over the gorge edge by design.
That changed with a mini hydroelectric plant built on the site. The canal's flow now goes to the turbines, and the waterfall itself runs only in spring, when the plant releases what it doesn't need down the old channel.
The rest of the year, the gorge wall stays dry.
Kasakh Waterfall sits in Aragatsotn region, near Ashtarak, on the gorge slope opposite Karbi village and Hovhanavank monastery, close to Oganavan. It's roughly 20 km north-northwest of Yerevan as the crow flies. No marked approach is documented here — worth asking locally for the current path down to the gorge.
The drop only runs in spring, when the hydro plant releases surplus water; the rest of the year the channel is dry.
