Mantash Reservoir

Водохранилище Манташ · Մանթաշի ջրամբար

Mantash Reservoir holds water for irrigation on the Mantash river, on the slope of Mount Aragats at 2550 meters. It went into operation in 1967 and was rebuilt in 1973. The reservoir covers 0.79 square kilometers and reaches a maximum depth of 25 meters, with a total capacity of 8.2 million cubic meters, 7.9 million of which is usable.

The dam holding it back is rockfill construction with a reinforced-concrete facing, 407 meters long and up to 29 meters high. Water is let out through a tower-type outlet built for irrigation. From there it reaches farmland around Artik and the villages nearby.

Mantash Reservoir is in Shirak region, on the slope of Aragats, roughly 54 km northwest of Yerevan in a straight line. Its water is used to irrigate land in Artik and neighboring villages.

Flow regulation here is seasonal, so the water level tracks irrigation demand through the growing season rather than staying constant year-round.
