Mknasar reaches 2,946 meters at the point where the Gegham and Vardenis mountain ranges join, forming part of the boundary between Vayots Dzor and Gegharkunik marzes. It sits at the southern end of the Gegham range.
The peak is also known as Gndasar, and older sources record it under the variant names Topdagh and Topidagh.
Mknasar lies in Vayots Dzor marz, roughly 64 km east-southeast of Yerevan in a straight line.
