Pambak range
Памбакский хребет · Փամբակի լեռնաշղթա
Pambak range is a mountain ridge built of igneous rock, forming the watershed between the Araks and Kura river basins. It runs northwest to southeast from the town of Spitak to the Sevan peninsula, a stretch of roughly 70 km.
The range is bare along nearly its whole length. The exception is the foot of its northern slope, in the Aghstev valley, where oak-beech forest survives. Elsewhere the slopes and the ridge line carry mountain steppe and mountain meadow, vegetation that burns out by midsummer.
Its highest point is Mount Tezhler. Armenian-language sources give a longer figure for the range overall, more than 100 km, with a width of up to 16 km, and place it across parts of Shirak, Lori, Aragatsotn, Kotayk, Tavush and Gegharkunik marz (Armenian administrative province).
The mapped point for the range sits in Kotayk marz (Armenian administrative province), ~55 km north of Yerevan (straight-line). The range itself is not confined to one marz — it extends northwest into Lori and Shirak and east into Tavush and Gegharkunik as it runs toward the Sevan peninsula.
Mountain steppe and meadow cover the slopes and ridge line but burns out by midsummer.
