Institute of History

The Institute of History (Պատմության ինստիտուտ) operates under Armenia's National Academy of Sciences. Its structure splits into departments by period and theme: ancient history, medieval history, modern history, contemporary history, general history, the Armenian Question and Armenian Genocide history, the history of the diaspora and Armenian colonies, and the history of the Armenian periodical press and public thought. A separate group studies the historical and cultural heritage of Artsakh.

The institute offers magistratura and aspirantura study (master's and doctoral-track programs), with a correspondence-course aspirantura admission cycle listed for 2026/2027. It publishes a multi-volume series called "Հայոց պատմություն" (History of Armenia), keeps a library, and puts out two periodicals: Պատմաբանասիրական Հանդես (Historical-Philological Journal) and Հայոց պատմության հարցեր (Questions of Armenian History).

The institute is in Yerevan, roughly 2 km north-northwest of the city center in straight-line terms.
