Plane Grove Sanctuary

Plane Grove Sanctuary is a 60-hectare protected area in Syunik, set up in 1958 to safeguard a natural grove of sosi (oriental plane tree). It sits at 700-800 meters elevation, on the banks of the Tsav and Shikahogh rivers, right next to the Shikahogh reserve.
The reserve exists for one reason: to keep this stand of plane trees intact where the two rivers meet.
The sanctuary lies in Syunik region, next to the Shikahogh reserve, roughly 216 km southeast of Yerevan as the crow flies.
