Saint Christopher Monastery

Монастырь Христафора · Սուրբ Քրիստափորի վանք

Saint Christopher Monastery is a 7th-century Armenian church, restored, standing inside a cemetery 2.2 kilometers southeast of Dashtadem village and its fortress in Aragatsotn province. The cemetery itself has been used since the 6th century and holds a number of notable khachkars (carved cross-stones).

Just north of the church is a 13th-century stone tower with sloped walls, built for some combination of bell-ringing, defense, and funerary use. Small windows sit high on its walls, but there is no way inside. A low stone wall runs around the whole complex and part of the old cemetery, and Dashtadem Fortress is visible from the site at a distance.

The monastery sits in Aragatsotn province, 2.2 km southeast of Dashtadem village and its fortress, about 58 km west-northwest of Yerevan in a straight line.
